Renowned Voice Actor Bob Carter to Star at Paladins and Brawlhalla Event
Esports League Offers Internships as Well as Scholarships for Playing Video Games
ATLANTA (Sept. 21, 2017) — The Georgia Game Developers Association (GGDA) today announced that renowned voice actor Bob Carter will MC the first annual Georgia Esports League state championship Oct. 8. The tournament, which offers more than $10,000 in scholarships, is the first of its kind in the Southeast.
Bob Carter is a professional Voice Actor known for voicing Balrog in the Street Fighter series, Shao Kahn & Baraka in Mortal Kombat, Odin in Smite, the Astronaut in Lifeless Planet, the Iron Guard in Destiny 2, and many other popular heroes and villains. Carter has also voiced many popular animation and anime projects such as Fairy Tail: Dragon Cry, Dragonball Z, Full Metal Alchemist, Samurai 7, Blassreiter, and many other cartoon series & video games. He also serves as media anchor for Power96 radio in Atlanta.
“Carter is the perfect person for this event. Not only has he been a key part of great video games, but he also has a passion for education and esports,” said Andrew Greenberg, executive director of the GGDA. “He constantly works both to train young voice actors and improve the industry as well.”
Carter recently opened a production & coaching studio, the Neighborhood Studio, where he and several other top tier coaches and talents help aspiring creatives become working creatives.
“I love esports tournaments,” said Carter. “The mix of great games, great players and great fans makes for an atmosphere unlike any other.
Creation of the Georgia Esports League allows varsity college teams around the state to compete for internships at video game studios as well as scholarships. Open to public universities, technical school and private colleges, the League hosts tournaments around Georgia in addition to a state championship.
The state finals are scheduled for October 8, during the Southern Interactive Entertainment and Game Expo (www.siegecon.net). Players compete in popular games like Paladins and Brawlhalla, both made by Georgia companies.
The Georgia Game Developers Association is the non-profit trade association for the video game industry in the state of Georgia. It supports its members with business opportunities, educational services, professional development and public affairs coordination.
